Why maintenance matters.

In 2026, our efforts have near tripled to keep ahead of the latest threats.

Website maintenance has become one of our most popular services — and the reason is the web itself. The rapid growth of AI means programming has never been more accessible, and websites have never been more at threat: security holes are found easier and faster than ever, and increasingly sophisticated tools and bots are being developed to exploit them.

It's worth knowing that website security and hosting security are two different things. Hosting keeps the server side safe — the machine your website lives on. But if the website itself isn't cared for as the internet evolves around it, it becomes the vulnerable half: exposed to newly discovered holes, and to the bugs major updates can introduce. At Novus Design, we take website security very seriously.

What every maintenance plan includes.

One plan, everything your website needs to stay healthy — handled for you, every single month. Every client benefits from all six, and your quote is based on the needs of your website — you pay for the care your site actually needs, nothing more.

01

CMS updates

Your website's core software kept current with the latest releases — giving it a healthy, secure and long lifespan.

02

Plugin updates

Your features and tailor-made systems kept modern and on the latest versions — gaining new capabilities, shedding old vulnerabilities.

03

Plugin licence management

The licences for your premium plugins kept active and renewed, so the tools your website relies on never stop working.

04

Security updates

The risk of attack minimised by keeping your security software up to date and making educated adjustments to your website — your data safe, your site functioning.

05

Page Performance MOT

A monthly check on page performance, maximising your page speed and the quality of your content delivery.

06

Enhancements & bug fixes

Code refined to improve performance, bugs arising from the monthly updates fixed, and minor technical SEO improvements made to your pages.

A full report,
every month.

Maintenance shouldn't be invisible work you take on faith. Every month you'll receive a full report of the maintenance carried out — the updates applied, the checks completed and the fixes made.

You'll also get our suggestions for any future updates worth considering, so your website always has a clear road ahead.

How your hours work —
and what sits outside the plan.

We like to be completely clear about what's included, so there are never any surprises.

Your maintenance plan allows for:

  • Up to two hours of bug fixes each month, for systems that break as a result of updates.
  • Unused hours rolling over into the following month — up to a total of four hours in any month.
  • Anything beyond the allowance, or outside what counts as a bug fix, always quoted for your approval first.

Your maintenance plan does not cover:

  • Bugs, broken features or misconfigurations that existed before your website came into our care.
  • Fixing the website as a result of user error or negligence.
  • Changes to the configuration of a working website — like reviewing payment gateways, or changing how features are set up.
  • Researching features, or liaising with plugin and software providers, unrelated to something broken by an update.

None of this is off-limits, though — it simply sits outside the plan. Anything above can be quoted separately, or handled through a work retainer if you'd like ongoing hours to draw on. Explore our full range of services →

Want to go further? Add Maintenance Plus.

As an optional addition to your maintenance plan, Maintenance Plus routes your website through our CDN — adding an extra layer of security in front of everything your plan already protects.

Maintenance Plus is priced per website, on top of your maintenance plan. Not sure whether your website needs it? Ask us — we'll always advise honestly.

At its best paired with Website Hosting.

With control of your website's host, we can deliver the full service — end to end.

A maintenance plan is at its strongest when your hosting is in our care too. Hosting and maintenance are two halves of the same job — one keeps your website online, the other keeps it healthy — and they work best as one.

Having control of the website host means one team with full visibility of the whole picture: server and site kept configured, connected and working as they should, with no third-party back-and-forth slowing things down. To get the most from your maintenance service, we recommend a hosting plan with us — it's why most of our maintenance clients keep their hosting and email with us too — and moving your hosting to us is free, with the whole switch handled for you.

Let us take care of it.

Ready to stop worrying about updates, security and bugs? For a modest monthly cost, a maintenance plan keeps your website secure, current and performing at its best — quietly working away in the background so you never have to think about it.

And for the very best value, pair it with our Website Hosting and Email Hosting, so every part of your online presence is cared for under one roof.

Questions,
answered.

Straight answers to the things we're asked most about maintenance. Anything else — just ask.

  • What does a maintenance plan actually include?

Everything your website needs to stay healthy, every month: CMS and plugin updates, plugin licence management, security patching, a monthly Page Performance MOT, plus enhancements and bug fixes — all documented in a full monthly report.

  • How much does website maintenance cost?

Your plan is quoted on the requirements of your website — its size, the software it runs on and the systems working behind the scenes. The figure is fixed and transparent, and to get the most from the service we recommend pairing it with a hosting plan of ours.

  • What is Maintenance Plus?

An optional addition to your maintenance plan, priced at +£5 +VAT a month per website. It routes your website through our CDN, adding enhanced DNS protection and basic bot protection — a popular choice with our clients.

  • How do the bug-fix hours work?

Every plan includes up to two hours of bug fixes each month, for anything that breaks as a result of updates. Unused hours roll over into the following month — up to four hours in any month — and anything beyond the allowance is always quoted for your approval first.

  • I already have hosting — do I still need maintenance?

They do different jobs. Hosting keeps your website online: the server, storage and backups. Maintenance keeps the website itself healthy: its software updated, security patched and bugs fixed. Hosting alone doesn't cover any changes or updates to your site.

  • Can you maintain a website you didn't build?

Yes — we take on existing websites all the time. We'll review your site first, and any bugs or misconfigurations that existed before it came into our care are quoted separately, so your plan stays fair and predictable.

  • How do I know the work is actually being done?

You'll receive a full report every month: the updates applied, the checks completed and the fixes made — along with our suggestions for anything worth considering next. Nothing is taken on faith.

  • What if I need bigger changes to my website?

Anything beyond the plan — new features, design changes, content work — is quoted separately for your approval, or handled through a work retainer if you'd like reserved hours every month at a discounted rate.

Happy clients,

  • Our members needed one place we could point people to without apologising for it. David listened more than he talked and kept every date he set — nothing felt rushed. New clients now open with ‘I found you through the website’.

    Claire

    Founder, Dorset Counselling Association
  • Honestly, my goal was not getting fined — vape rules change constantly. David walked me through the age-check side in plain words, and Toby made the shop look proper. When I email, an actual person replies — usually the same day.

    Callum

    Owner, The Cloud Room
  • I was running bookings out of spreadsheets and losing my evenings to it. David sat with me for an hour before we talked websites at all. Now members book and pay themselves, and I've got my Tuesdays back.

    James

    Founder, Harbour Training Group
  • We just needed people to find us and see we're the real thing. I kept going quiet mid-project — busy season — and David chased me, kindly. The site went live on the date he'd promised, and new enquiries mention it straight away.

    Sophie

    Director, Southcoast Eventing
  • Our old site embarrassed us in pitches — that was the push. David asked good questions, about the films rather than fonts, then mostly let the work breathe. Two producers have brought the site up themselves, which never used to happen.
